I've been focusing so much on bad things recently; dear friends who are grieving; poorly loved ones; terrible world events; worries for the future; that I forgot to be grateful for the everyday joys I have in abundance.
This morning, I heard of a new member of the family. A wee boy. Other dear friends have had babies recently or are expecting. I am very grateful for each one.
I'm an ordinary housewife in an ordinary village in the middle of an ordinary country. I can't hope to understand the mess that's been made of the world; or why people are so cruel. I can't hope to influence any of this.
My corner of the world; small as it is; is where I can have influence. I can care for those I love; especially when they are down or poorly. I can dry my friend's tears and; even if I can't find anything to say to comfort them; I can wait for them to call so I can just listen and try to lighten their grief. I can bring joy in a thousand tiny and insignificant ways to the people I am blessed to know. I can pray for those I don't know, but who are suffering. When I worry, or the day comes that I am grieving; I can turn to those around me and be comforted.
Most of all; I can be grateful for my loved ones and friends; many of whom circumstances demand I cannot see very often, but whom I love dearly, as I know they love me. x
